Source: Immigration Impact
A new study from University of California Davis’ Institute of Labor Economics found that heightened immigration enforcement did not decrease crime rates for “violent offenses or property offenses.” The program “Secure Communities” that was reinstated by the Trump Administration at the beginning of his presidency was believed to prevent crime by “taking into custody anyone being held in a jail” if he or she violated an immigration law. The localities were examined before and after they adopted Secure Communities, and the study found that the places that had the highest deportation rates were no safer than those that deported the fewest.
