Report shows that most immigrant detainees to not have criminal convictions

This year, ICE’s arrest strategies included arresting parents as they dropped their children off at school, raiding businesses, and creating a fake university to recruit hundreds of students with the intention to detain them. See here.

A new report from Syracuse University’s TRAC Center has found that the majority of immigrants detained in ICE facilities are individuals without any criminal convictions. “Since October 2017, the number of individuals in ICE detention with serious criminal convictions dropped 25%… As of late November, only 33% of immigrants in ICE detention had any criminal conviction at all.” The report also found that more than 25% of individuals in ICE detention have already been found to have the requisite fear of persecution needed to make an asylum claim.

Although Trump promotes the narrative that immigrants are criminals, these facts demonstrate that ICE is detaining fewer people with criminal records than before.
