Defense Spending Act Allows Thousands of Liberians to Apply for Permanent Residency

Source: Immigration Impact

In December, President Trump signed the National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) into law. Section 7611 of this Act, Liberian Refugee Immigration Fairness (LRIF), will create an avenue to citizenship for about 4,000 Liberians living in the United States.

Liberian nationals may benefit under this law if they have been continuously present in the United States from November 20, 2014 to the date they properly file an application for adjustment of status. Spouses and children of those eligible may also now have a path to a green card.
