Source: Immigration Impact
This past December, New York and New Jersey joined 13 other states to permit undocumented immigrants to apply for driver’s licenses. Not only have studies shown that similar laws lower the rate of hit-and-runs, “estimates suggest that as many as 880,000 New Yorkers and 450,000 New Jerseyans who are of driving age could benefit from these new laws.”
Undocumented immigrants can apply for a driver’s license the same way as anyone else. A driver’s license will now allow them to legally drive, obtain liability insurance, and gain independence by not relying on other methods of transportation.
