This article describes the real effects of Trump’s expansion of the U.S. travel ban through the perspectives of “an Eritrean father yearning to be reunited with his four children after 15 years apart; an American woman adopting a Nigerian toddler; a Nigerian man desperate to be with his American wife and children.”
Last Friday, Trump expanded the travel ban to Nigeria, Eritrea, Kyrgyzstan, and Myanmar. Three of these countries have Muslim-majority populations. The proclamation also stated that the U.S. will discontinue issuing “diversity visas” (aka the visa lottery) to nationals of Sudan and Tanzania.
Nigeria’s Foreign Minister, Geoffrey Onyeama, said that Nigeria was “blindsided” by this decision and that the country is currently working to have the travel ban lifted. See here.
