The Department of Homeland Security has suspended Global Entry and other “Trusted Traveler Programs” for all New York residents. These Trusted Traveler Programs provide travelers with expedited passage through customs after being checked and briefed by government officials.
Chad Wolf, the Acting Homeland Security Chief, said that New Yorkers cannot enroll or re-enroll in the Trusted Traveler Programs (including Global Entry, SENTRI, FAST and NEXUS) because Customs and Border Patrol “no longer [has] access [to DMV data] to make sure that they meet those program requirements.”
This suspension was taken a day after President Trump criticized so-called sanctuary cities, such as New York City. Rich Azzopardi, a senior advisor to New York Governor Andrew Cuomo, stated, “This is obviously political retaliation by the federal government and we’re going to review our legal options.”
TSA PreCheck was not included in the suspension.
