Federal Judge blocks USCIS fee increase

Source: Forbes

On Tuesday, a federal judge granted a motion for a preliminary junction against U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services’s (USCIS) fee rule. This means that USCIS cannot raise its fees until the government appeals this decision. The fee increases for business petitions, naturalization, asylum applications, and others were scheduled to go into effect on October 2, 2020.
In his decision, Judge Jeffrey White wrote, “[The rule] will prevent vulnerable and low-income applicants from applying for immigration benefits, will block access to humanitarian protections, and will expose those populations to further danger.”
