Immigration activist arrested in Philadelphia after protesting ICE director

Source: WHYY
On October 8, a Philadelphia resident, Nancy Nguyen was arrested in her home while she was changing her 18-month old’s diaper for participating in “a nonviolent protest before the house of acting Immigrations and Customs Enforcement director Tony Pham.”
Nancy makes clear that she was never told why she was being detained and never saw the warrant for her arrest. It wasn’t until she was handcuffed that she realized she was being arrested for “trespassing.”
While Nancy was detained for 21 hours without PPE, the Philadelphia Police Department’s Civilian Affairs Unit did not tell her family exactly where she was being held. Nancy was not released from detention until Councilmembers Helen Gym and Kendra Books and other community organizations came forward demanding for Nancy’s release.
Nancy states, “The truth is, people free people from jails and prisons and detention centers.”
If you’d like to help drop the charges against the community organizers who are being targeted by ICE director Tony Pham, you can sign this petition or call Henrico County Commonwealth at (804) 501-4218 ext. 0.
