Ken Cuccinelli, the acting director of U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services, discussed on Monday the new “public charge” rule that would deny green cards and visas to immigrants who rely on food stamps, Medicaid or other public benefits.
The rule will go into effect on October 15, 2019. Cuccinelli stated, “All immigrants who can stand on their own two feet, self-sufficient, pull themselves up by their bootstraps would be welcome.” This rule will restrict the demographic of immigrants coming to live and work in the United States.
