Judge Morley removed from cases after perceived criticism of Sessions

Source: CNN

As many of you may know, our Philadelphia Immigration Court Judge Steven Morley was recently removed from a case for allowing a short extension so advocates could continue the search for the missing child respondent and for allowing briefing on the issue of whether or not the government properly notified the child of his court hearing. He did this under the backdrop of numerous reports of ORR losing children in the immigration process.

Jeff Sessions and the DOJ removed Morley from the case calling his decision “unprofessional.” We were there in the court room the day of that decision; there was nothing unprofessional about it.

The National Immigration Judges Association filed a grievance against the Department of Justice yesterday. This ongoing interference with judicial independence and the undermining of due process under this administration is intolerable and cannot continue.
