Federal District Court Judge Emmet Sullivan’s outrage at Jeff Sessions is well placed. The judge had been assured that a mother and daughter, both victims of severe domestic violence and at grave risk, would not be deported until he had reached a decision in the proceedings.
The government then woke the mother and daughter in the middle of the night to deport them without informing counsel or the Court, in direct violation of its assurances to the judge.
In ordering a reversal of these illegal deportations and threatening to hold high level government officials accountable, Sullivan’s order reiterates that the administration is not all-powerful in its attempts to curtail due process, violate international law, and carry out its xenophobic and inhumane agenda.
