Santiago Potes is the First Latino DACA Recipient to become a Rhodes Scholar. Santiago Is a 23-year-old graduate of Columbia University who came to the U.S. when he was four years old from Colombia.
Santiago originally did not apply for the Rhodes Scholarship program because of his DACA status. It was not until the Supreme Court rejected Trump’s attempts to abolish the DACA program that Santiago decided to pursue the Rhodes scholarship process.
Santiago plans to attend the University of Oxford In the United Kingdom this fall to study for a Master’s in international relations. Santiago states, “I wanna be a national security expert working at the Department of State or working as a counselor to a senator. I want to use my academic research to help the United States, ultimately.”
